November/December 2016

Preston decided this blog should be called "Preston's Blog"... so there you have it.

In November I took Sariah and Preston to the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium for a field trip:







I asked Preston what his favorite animal was, and he said it was the penguin.  I couldn't figure out where he got that from, but later I found out that he has somehow become a fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins hockey team and that's why he loves penguins.  We're not sure where he got that from since no one in our family follows hockey at all.  But he will tell anyone and everyone that he loves the Pittsburgh Penguins, and he tries to follow how they are doing in their games.  Dallin says he's not sure Preston really even knows what hockey is, but it is still cute.

Kindergarten story time--I don't even remember what this story was, but it was obviously something Christmas-themed due to the angel.

Dallin was gone--he must have been camping with the scouts or something--but Sariah and Preston had breakfast with Santa at James' work:

Birthday Time

 Just doing a little math. Preston had a really fun birthday this year.  Clothes!  And more clothes...  Automatic re-setting targets for his nerf gun.  LEGO Minecraft.  He's the first child in our family to enjoy Legos.  A science kit to make volcanoes.  Every year Preston chooses an Oreo ice cream cake from Dairy Queen.  We decided that it was time to throw Preston a birthday party with his friends.  He's actually never had one before.  The closest we ever got was inviting another family over when we lived in Pennsylvania.  But since he now has a neighborhood full of friends, it was time for a party.  We decided on a Minecraft theme.  We had it the day after his birthday.  So handsome showing off his new clothes. October Photo Dump

 Most of these pictures are of hikes, because we've been doing a lot of them. I aim for once a week.   It is so beautiful where we live!  Preston says this is his favorite trail we've found so far. In October we started a unit based on the book Farmer Boy.  We dyed yarn on the stove using natural items--red cabbage, grapes, etc.  Preston was very proud of our efforts.  We also went to an Apple Festival at a local farm.  Preston did this ball toss activity and won three goldfish.  The kids goofing off. Dallin and Preston tried their hand at this giant sling shot at the festival.  Continuing with our Farmer Boy lessons, we talked about food preservation and dried apples in the oven. More hiking!  Still wild raspberries in October!  Math--hands on experience with factoring, and then he drew it on the chalkboard. ...
