Preston's Christmas 2017

Image
The kids' favorite tradition is gingerbread house decorating. Daddy helped by being on "icing bag" duty. As you can see by the rows of marshmallows, Preston is very meticulous and likes to do things in an organized and patterned way. Christmas Eve devotional time Blowing out his Advent candle on Christmas Eve Opening his Christmas Eve PJ's:  Dallin chose them Christmas morning:  he finally got "that dang marble run"! "That dang marble run" was actually quite a pain to set up.  I was until 12:30 am trying to put it together.  Even though I followed the picture on the box exactly, I had to laugh when Preston's comment was, "Santa didn't put this together right." Another item of soccer-themed clothing--also courtesy of Dallin.  He's trying to turn Preston into a soccer player, and it's working. Jenga came in his stock

Once a week or so we do a therapeutic drawing activity called form drawing.  Basically it is drawing patterns of straight and/or curved lines.  It is great preparation for handwriting.  Prior to actually drawing the forms on paper, we try to get them into his body by having him walk or run the patterns, or by using various body parts to "draw" them large on the wall or in the air.  He really got into this one!  He wanted to make many more graduated lines than what were required.  (He realized he accidentally drew this with yellow, so of course he had to go back and redo it with blue chalk.  LOL, he cracks me up!)  We also try to paint every week or two.  In our first grade, the paintings are all color exercises, set to stories.  This one was a story about squirrels snuggled up in their hollow tree for the winter, the story was intended to highlight the cool blue surrounded by the warm red.  Preston is a fairly meticulous painter--he made five "sha

We did have some days of nice weather to begin the month.  Preston took advantage of the chance to ride his scooter on the deck. Cookie dough is always the best! For Sariah's lessons, we had a chocolate chip taste-testing session.  Then we melted the chips, added mix-ins, and made candy. We kicked the Christmas season off with a trip to Daddy's hospital for their annual Breakfast With Santa.  Dallin didn't get to come because he was at a church youth activity, but Sariah and Preston had a blast. (Do you like his buck teeth?  He is very proud of them and loves to show them off!) He's being so secretive, but we all know what he wants for Christmas--"that dang marble run", as he puts it.  I've gotten him two marble runs the past two years, but none of them are the one he really wants.  And yes, Santa will be delivering the correct product this Christmas.  (After Preston photocopied the page out of a catalogue
